Ambassadors

At the beginning of 2018, we started a communication campaign addressed to students from the United States, Canada and Australia. We have prepared a special educational program for foreign students that will also be available online. The pilot project was conducted at the beginning of March 2018.

Students from the USA spent couple of days visiting Warsaw. They saw permanent exhibition at the Jewish Historical Institute dedicated to the Ringelblum Archive and the Oneg Shabbat group, took part in walks and educational workshops prepared by the JHI educators. As Ambassadors of the Oneg Szabat Program at their home universities – together with us – they will popularize history of the Underground Archive of the Warsaw Ghetto and their creators.

The visit was truly emotional for them: they could see original documents from the Ringelblum Archive kept at Tłomackie Street 3/5. They went back to their home universities with the important mission: as the Ambassadors of the Oneg Szabat Program they are going to talk with friends and families about the Oneg Szabbat Group and their role in documenting the life and death of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Can the history of war fortunes and the annihilation of Polish Jews described by students become a part of their identities? Can the need of leaving the testimony of life, emotions and thoughts become an inspiration in the contemporary world? Young ambassadors of the Oneg Szabat Program give us hope in that matter.

In the near future, we are planning next editions of the Program.
