The more people know about the Archive, the safer it will be, and the memory about the Holocaust will be preserved. Now, it is our time to fight for the memory! We owe this to people who died during the Holocaust, to ourselves, and to future generations, said Krzysztof A. Rozen, co-author and coordinator of the Oneg Szabat Program, a special guest during the screening of Roberta Grossman’s „Who will write our history” at the Innis Town Hall in Toronto.
The script for the film, produced by Nancy Spielberg, was based on a book by American historian Samuel D. Kassow, dedicated to the Oneg Shabbat group and the Underground Archive of the Warsaw Ghetto. The cast includes Piotr Głowacki, Karolina Gruszka, Jowita Budnik and others. The film premiered on 21st July at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, where it received the Audience Award. This year, the film will be screened in Europe – also in Poland, where it will open the Warsaw Jewish Film Festival.
The film includes many quotes from the Ringelblum Archive. Part of the footage was filmed in Łódź and in Warsaw, also in the hall of the Jewish Historical Institute – during the war, the location of meetings of the Emanuel Ringelblum’s group.
Preserving the memory about the Holocaust and about the resistance undertaken by the Oneg Shabbat group is our common goal – this is why we’ve been engaged in supporting the making and distribution of the film. We would like to encourage you to visit the Central Jewish Library and the Delet webportal, where you can see the original documents from the Archive.
